The Endoscopic Study in Esophageal Diseases


Abstract
We reviewed 451 cases who had taken gastrofiberscopic examination and showed esophageal abnormality from november, 1989 to october, 1990 in Chungnam national university hospital.
The results were as follows.
1. The ratio of male to female was 3£º 1 and the peak age incidence was in the fifth decade(136 cases, 30.8£¥).
2. The causes for request of esophagoscopic examination were routine check of liver cirrhosis(45£¥), dysphagia(14.2£¥), epigastric pain(14£¥), chest pain(11.5£¥) and gastrointestinal bleeding (7.1£¥)
3. Esophageal diseases diagnosed by endoscopy were esophageal varices 239 cases(52£¥ ), reflux esophagitis 83 cases(18.4£¥), esophageal cancer 41 cases(9.1£¥), esophageal ulcer 30 cases(6.7£¥), acute esophagitis and esophageal candidiasis.
4. Symptoms of esophageal diseases were chiefly dysphagia, epigastric pain and chest pain. Symptoms of various esophagitis were predorminantly chest pain or epigastric pain, cancer was dysphagia.
